FISHING IN ABBEYLEIX AND SURROUNDING AREAS
The three main areas for fishing in the vicinity of Abbeyleix are :
- The River Nore on the southern end of the town
- Gills Pond and the Masslough in nearby Ballinakill
- Granstown Lake in Ballacolla.
The river Nore has an abundance of brown trout. The average size is usually between 10 and 12 ounces. Fishermen are advised to bring the waders as wading is necessary and quite safe. However the rewards are fantastic!
Gills Pond and the Masslough in Ballinakill are rich in tench and rudd. People are welcome to use the lakes at Ballinakill where they may be approached by a warden during the day and a day ticket will be issued.
