Patsy+Watchorn+pw_10Tommy Ring’s first cousin, Christina (Ina) Ring came from Tunduff, Abbeyleix. Ina married Ernie Watchorn who was a native of Dublin. One of Ina’s son Patsy is a household name all over the world as a renowned balladeer.   Patsy Watchorn was the lead singer with The Quare Fellas, a ballad group from Dublin in 1969.  They evolved into The Dublin City Ramblers.   In 1995 Patsy left the Dublin City Ramblers and pursued a solo career and made a number of albums. In 2005 Patsy joined The Dubliners and toured throughout, Ireland, Europe, the UK, Australia and America. In 2012, after 50 years The Dubliners announced their retirement.

Patsy now plays with The Dublin Legends along side Sean Cannon, Eamonn Campbell and Gerry O’Connor.

And here’s a quote from Hotpress magazine:

‘The sound is warm and organic, Watchorn’s voice is powerful and commanding without being overbearing and the all-acoustic accompaniment is beautifully understated. The overall effect is to allow the lyrics – the heart and soul of the song – to shine through’.  (Colm O’Hare, Hotpress magazine)

In  his youth Patsy spent many happy summers in Abbeyleix and is still a regular visitor. He can often be herad joining in with the locals and enjoying the craic.
